In this delicate historical period, the 06 San Benedetto Abate center has dedicated this special day to a fundamental right: the RIGHT TO PEACE.
But what is peace?
A word as simple as it is difficult to put into practice. But children's words are always the brightest and strike a chord in our hearts:
"Peace comes in all colors."
"Peace is love."
"Peace is a hug that makes us happy."
"Walls separate those who love each other."
How many walls in the past were built to divide, separate, distance?
Walls separate us from each other.
The Future, however, needs everyone's help.
This is what the illustrated book "IL MURO" by Giancarlo Macrì and Carolina Zanotti teaches us: men build too many walls and not enough bridges. A book
which teaches children the importance and value of living together, of helping each other, of breaking down walls.
Inspired by the idea of building bridges for peace, we carried out numerous activities with children at school and at home with the collaboration of families, readings,
conversations, drawings, workshops, with the aim of creating a representative panel of this project:
A world map surrounded by colored paper airplanes, bearers of the words of peace.
Because living well and being at peace remains a right, not only of children but of humanity. (Loris Malaguzzi)
Precisely because the right to peace is everyone's right, this project of ours could not remain only within the walls of our school.
We contacted and proposed the project to some foreign schools with the help of some parents of former students who had moved to other cities, and the response was surprising: Congo, Oxford, Canada... they shared reflections, readings, messages written on airplanes, drawings and video calls with the children of the San Benedetto campus.
Different schools, different countries, but with the same goal: to create a bridge that goes beyond barriers.
